COMPLETE LOCAL ALBUM GUIDE

How to Prepare Your Vinyl Album

Put one album in one folder. Supported audio is the only part required for a playable album. Lyrics, sleeve artwork, custom vinyl labels, and a digital booklet are optional and can be added whenever you want a richer presentation.

├── vinyl_label_b.png

    ├── 01.jpg
    ├── 02.jpg
    └── 03.png

Audio and lyrics

Supported audio formats are MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, and FLAC. For reliable lyric matching, give each LRC file the exact same base name as its audio track: 01 - Opening.mp3 and 01 - Opening.lrc. The .lrc extension is required.

Album artwork

  • cover.jpg, cover.jpeg, or cover.png is the recommended optional front cover. Recognized folder and front JPG, JPEG, or PNG alternatives also work.
  • back.jpg, back.jpeg, or back.png is the recommended optional back cover. Recognized back cover, rear, and rear cover JPG, JPEG, or PNG alternatives also work.

Custom Side A and Side B labels

  • Use vinyl_label_a.jpg, .jpeg, or .png for Side A.
  • Use vinyl_label_b.jpg, .jpeg, or .png for Side B.

Label priority is intentional: Side A uses vinyl_label_a, then falls back to the front cover. Side B uses vinyl_label_b, then the back cover, then the front cover. If only a front cover is available, both sides can use it. If no valid image is available, MusicMall keeps its default placeholder. Custom labels do not replace the normal front and back sleeve artwork.

Digital booklet

Create a subfolder named booklet. Supported booklet images include JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and HEIC. Number pages with leading zeroes—01, 02, 03—so they sort naturally in reading order.

Import and verify

  1. Choose the album folder using MusicMall’s local folder import or scan flow.
  2. Wait for scanning and metadata recognition to finish.
  3. Open the album in Collection and check front/back artwork, lyrics, and booklet.
  4. Open Now Playing and flip the vinyl to confirm the custom labels on both sides.
  5. If a label slot was empty, adding a correctly named label and rescanning the same source folder can fill it without creating a duplicate album.

Rescanning custom labels

MusicMall protects saved vinyl-label references so a rescan does not unintentionally overwrite a customization. A newly found label can fill an empty Side A or Side B slot, but it may not replace a label already saved by the app. Removing the original image from the folder does not automatically clear a saved label reference.

If a new label does not appear, confirm its exact filename and extension, rescan the same album folder, then close and reopen the album. Existing saved customizations may remain until changed through a supported in-app customization flow.

Common mistakes

  • Do not translate or add spaces to the recommended tokens cover, back, vinyl_label_a, vinyl_label_b, and booklet.
  • Do not use an unsupported image or audio extension.
  • Keep lyric base names aligned with their tracks.
  • Keep booklet pages inside the booklet folder and number them consistently.
  • If Android can no longer access a selected folder, choose it again through the system picker.
  • Remember that a rescan can fill an empty label slot but may retain an existing saved customization.
LOCAL DISCOVER GUIDE

How to Prepare Your Discover Folder

Discover imports local artist videos from a folder you choose. For several artists, create one immediate subfolder per artist and select the outer folder. For one artist, you can place videos directly in that artist folder and select it. MusicMall reads videos directly inside each artist folder; deeper nested video folders are not scanned.

My Discover/
├── My Artist/
│ ├── cover.jpg
│ ├── 01 - Music Video.mp4
│ ├── 02 - Live Performance.mov
│ └── Behind The Scenes.m4v
└── Another Artist/
    ├── cover.webp
    └── First Video.mp4

Artist folders and cover images

The artist name shown in Discover starts from the artist folder name. Put the optional cover image directly inside that folder and name its base cover. Supported cover extensions are JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and WEBP. Without a valid cover, MusicMall displays a simple placeholder using the artist’s initial.

If the selected folder contains immediate artist subfolders, those subfolders are scanned as artists. Direct videos beside those subfolders are not imported. Select one artist folder directly when its videos are stored at that folder’s top level.

Video files and ordering

Accepted local video extensions are MP4, MOV, and M4V. Video filenames are otherwise free-form. MusicMall uses the filename without its extension as the visible title and removes a leading sequence number such as 01 - . Videos are ordered first by the first number in the filename, then by filename; files without a number follow the numbered items alphabetically.

An accepted extension means the importer can recognize the file. Actual playback also depends on the video and audio codecs supported by Android Media3 and the user’s device, so not every file in a recognized container is guaranteed to decode.

Import and keep access

  1. Open Settings → Transfer File → Import Discover Folder.
  2. Select the outer folder that contains artist subfolders, or select one artist folder containing videos directly.
  3. Open Discover, choose the imported artist, and tap a video to play it.
  4. MusicMall saves the artist and video records across app restarts. Keep the original folder available and retain Android’s folder permission so its local URIs remain playable.

Importing the same folder again uses stable document identities and updates the existing local Discover records instead of intentionally creating duplicates. Selecting a different Discover root replaces the current local-folder scan result, so select the common outer folder when you want several artists together.

Common Discover mistakes

  • The cover is not named cover or uses an unsupported extension.
  • The video uses an extension other than MP4, MOV, or M4V.
  • The selected folder is one level above or below the structure you intended.
  • Videos are placed in folders nested below the immediate artist folder.
  • Android’s saved permission to the source folder was removed or the folder was moved.
  • The container is recognized but its internal codec is not supported by the device.
  • Artist metadata is visible but the source video is no longer accessible.
ALBUMS AND LOCAL DATA

Remove content safely.

Delete Album

Removes the album from MusicMall and cleans app-managed offline assets exclusively owned by it. Original audio and images in your selected source folder are not deleted.

Remove Discover Artist

Removes its MusicMall records and app-managed local copies where applicable. Original media in the selected source folder remains untouched.

Clear all MusicMall data

Use Android Settings → Apps → MusicMall Vinyl → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app. This removes app-private library data and managed files from the device but does not delete original external source folders.

LEGACY DRIVE USERS

Upgraded from an earlier build?

The Android Public edition has no Google Drive connection or remote access. An in-place upgrade may retain previously downloaded offline tracks and local metadata, while remote-only items remain unavailable. To revoke an old MusicMall authorization, use your Google Account’s third-party connections settings.
